History

The San Antonio Roses are an independent professional performance squad which can be contracted as pro-style cheerleaders for local sports teams. They have been providing cheerleaders to the semi-pro football community since 1999. They are also available for special community events, sporting events, promotions, grand openings, and corporate events. They can judge cheerleading / dance competitions / tryouts and are available for modeling and talent opportunities as well as mini cheer and dance camps.

The name "San Antonio Roses" was first used to define the squad in August 2003.  However the squad actually has a history dating back to 1999.

1999 Sharpshooters

In 1999, the director of the Roses, Cynthia Trinidad, former Spurs dancer and former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, was asked to be the director and choreographer for the cheerleaders of the United Professional Football League (UPFL) San Antonio Stampede.  Because of Cynthia's background in pro-style cheerleading, she organized the "1999 Sharpshooter Cheerleaders" as pro-style cheerleaders instead of collegiate-style cheerleaders.  In spite of have very limited time to setup the squad for the season, the 1999 Sharpshooters turned out be a successful squad.

The highlight of the 1999 season was seeing a member of the Sharpshooters make the NBA San Antonio Spurs Silver Dancers.  The 1999 Sharpshooters proved to be the start of the San Antonio Roses.

2000 Sharpshooters

The following year Cynthia returned to directed the "2000 Sharpshooter Cheerleaders".  Unlike the fast-paced 1999 season, the 2000 season allowed for refinements to the squad and set the format for future Roses squads.  Many new talented individuals joined three members who returned from the 1999 squad.  Practice facilities were setup at a local Gold's Gym and the girls rehearsed twice a week to prepare for the 2000 season.

Matador Cheerleaders

Before the Stampede's 2000 season began the Spring Football League (SFL) announced that they were forming the new San Antonio Matadors Football Team.  The SFL planned a short test season in San Antonio to research the crowd response.  The Matadors contacted Cynthia for assistance in creating a squad for the team.  She offered her cheerleaders for their 2-game test season provided the Matadors would let the squad cheer for the Stampede the rest of the season.  New uniforms were designed and ordered and the "Matadors Cheerleaders" were formed.

Unfortunately, due to low attendance throughout the entire SFL, the league folded after one home game.  The squad enjoyed the media blitz and watched the O'Jays perform after the game.  The high point of the 2000 season was seeing one more squad member make the NBA Spurs Silver Dancers.

Lightning Cheerleaders

In 2001 the North American Football League (NAFL) expanded to include the San Antonio Thunder Minor League Football Team.  The owner of the Thunder contacted Cynthia to put together the "Lightning Cheerleaders".  The Lightning Cheerleaders proved to be one of the most successful squads in the Roses' history.

Along with the games, the squad attended numerous events including charity events, parades, and television spots.  Two of the members managed to make the final auditions for the NFL Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.  DCC finals was a great achievement for a first try.

Talon Cheerleaders

In 2002 the NAFL Thunder changed their name to the San Antonio Talons Minor League Football Team.  Because of the birth of their child, Cynthia and her husband Robert stepped down as Director and Technical Director and passed the responsibility to the 3-year veteran captain of the 2001 Lightning Cheerleaders.  The "Talon Cheerleaders" were formed under the direction of Jennifer Salazar.

Talon Girls

Cynthia returned as Director for the Talon's 2003 season.  The squad changed its name to "Talon Girls".  New burgundy and white uniforms were ordered to match the Talon's colors and the squad practiced again at a local health club.  Unfortunately after one home game, the 2003 season came to an abrupt end for the San Antonio Talons.

Once again a bright spot for the season was seeing one more member move on to the NBA Spurs Silver Dancers.

Because of the volatility of semi-pro teams and the success stories of some of her squad members, Cynthia decided to move away from any specific team and convert the squad into an independent professional squad which could contract with local teams to provide them with cheerleaders.  At the same time, members would learn the "pro" concept and could use the experience to move on to professional teams like the NBA Spurs Silver Dancers or the NFL Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.  The official San Antonio Roses were born in 2003.

Mission Belles

In 2004 the Roses performed throughout the San Antonio area and attended charity events.  They also contracted with the AA San Antonio Missions Baseball Organization to form the "Mission Belles".  The concept of having cheerleaders at a baseball game hadn't been tried in San Antonio since the 1980's when the San Antonio Dodgers organized their Dodger Dollies.

The Mission Belles worked with the Mission's mascots, the Balapeno and the Puffy Taco at events promoting the Missions.

2006 Lady Ravens

In 2005 the San Antonio Roses attended and performed at events in San Antonio and Kerrville and made their first television appearance on Great Day SA.  The highlight of 2005 was performing at L'auberge du Lac in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

At the end of 2005 the Roses contracted with the GCFA San Antonio Ravens to form the "2006 Lady Ravens" for their inaugural 2006 season.  The Ravens played their games at Alamo Stadium.  At the end of the 2006 season the Roses saw three of their members move to professional status with organizations like the AFL Austin Wranglers, NBA D-League Austin Torros, and Walt Disney World.

In the fall of 2006 the San Antonio Roses were proud to announce the opening of their own studio and pro-shop on the northwest side of San Antonio.

2007 Warrior Cheerleaders

In the spring of 2007 the Roses contracted with the TUFL San Antonio Warriors Semi-Pro Football Organization to form their "2007 Warrior Cheerleaders".  During the season the Roses were proud to see two of their active members as well as one of their alumni make the WNBA San Antonio Silver Starts - AT&T Star Squad.  The Warriors finished their 4th regular season undefeated.

The San Antonio Roses continue to provide individuals the experience to successfully move to other professional or semi-professional teams and the opportunity to showcase their talent at events throughout San Antonio and Texas.
