When are auditions?

What should I expect at auditions? / What is the audition itinerary?
9:30 am - 10:00 am• Check-in
• A number badge will be given to you / Clip it on your left hip
• Please return your badge after auditions
10:00 am - 12:00 pm • You will be taught a short dance routine
12:00 pm - 12:30 pm • Break
12:30 pm - 2:30 pm • Auditions
• In groups of 3 or 4 you will introduce yourself
• Perform routine once or twice (Judge's discretion)
2:30 pm - 3:00 pm• Tabulations
• Announce squad
• Remember to return your number badge after auditions

If chosen, your first practice will be on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm in the same location where auditions were held. Don't be late! Don't miss!
I submitted my application on the S.A. Warrior's web site. Do I need to re-apply?
If you've received a reply from the San Antonio Roses, your application has been received. There is no need to re-apply. Your Warriors Cheerleader application will be used by the San Antonio Roses for the audition.

If chosen for the San Antonio Roses you will also perform as a Warrior Cheerleader for the MPFL San Antonio Warriors Minor Professional Football Organization and will be eligible to perform for the new IIFA San Antonio Lobos Indoor Professional Football Organization as a member of the Lady Lobo Dancers.
Who are the San Antonio Roses?
The San Antonio Roses are independent professional cheerleaders for San Antonio.  They consist of ladies who are multi-talented with a background in dance and cheerleading.  Our members attend and perform at numerous events throughout San Antonio. They also perform as cheerleaders/dancers for local professional and minor professional football organizations. Many of our ladies have gone on to perform with professional sports organization in the NFL, NBA and other leagues.

For the 2011 season members will also be performing as a Warrior Cheerleader for the MPFL San Antonio Warriors Minor Professional Football Organization and will have the opportunity to perform as a member of the Lady Lobo Dancers for the new IIFA San Antonio Lobos Indoor Professional Football Organization.
What are the basic requirements for San Antonio Roses members?
• You must be a minimum of 18 years old.
• You must be physically fit and trim.
• You must be a High School Graduate or have a G.E.D.
• You must live in the San Antonio area and have your own transportation.
• You should have a dance and/or cheerleading background, but is not required.
• You must have an email address and mobile phone for communication.
• Must commit to all practices and games for the season (October 2010 - June 2011).
Will there be any preparation classes for auditions?
A prep audition class is scheduled for Thursday, September 23, 2010 from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Bally Total Fitness - Alamo Quarry Market. It is the same location where auditions will be held so you can become familiar with the surroundings.

• Cost is only $15 (cash only) at the door.
• Send and email to rosesinfo@saroses.com by Sept 21, 2010 to confirm you are attending.
• Minimum of 8 confirmations are required by Sept 21, 2010 or class will be cancelled.

The class will be given by Cheerleader Director, Cynthia Trinidad and Choreographer, Melissa Martinez.

Cynthia Trinidad, former Spurs Dancer and Cowboys Cheerleader, will cover audition itinerary, audition tips and will hold a question and answer session.

Melissa Martinez, former Spurs Dancer and former UTSA Head Cheer/Dance Coach will cover dance technique and what to expect for the audition routine.
What else can I do to prepare for auditions?
Practice your dance skills including pirouettes.

Work on your endurance and watch your weight.

Practice your audition introduction which should include your name, age, place of birth and where you reside now, performance background, why you want to be on the squad, how you will be able to fulfill the commitment for the entire season (October 2010 - June 2011), your work / school schedule and what unique quality you believe you will bring to the squad.

Prepare and bring a backup outfit, extra hose and an energy bar.
The photo I submitted wasn't great. Does it matter?
Your submitted photo was being used in our audition software so the judges can identify you. Many submitted photos could have been better quality. To have a consistent format and quality level, we will take a photo of you during check-in. Have your make-up and hair done at check-in and be sure to be wearing your audition attire.
What is the audition attire?
• Sports bra / midriff baring dance crop top / halter
• Hot pants / dance short / boy cut brief
• Dance sneaker / dance jazz shoes
• Performance make-up (stay-on full coverage base)
• Wear hair loose and down (no hair accessories)
• No jewelry except stud earrings (no visible body / tongue / nose jewelry, rings, watches, etc.)
• No visible tattoos (use stay-on cover make-up if necessary)
• Nails clean and manicured – French, American or clear only
• Hose optional (suntan color, no squares or brief lines)

Note: We suggest wearing a cover-up to wear between the parking lot and aerobic room.
Can I be married and be a member of the San Antonio Roses?
Yes, but keep in mind the required time commitment.
We cannot accept single mothers with small children who do not have reliable childcare.  Childcare issues will not be an acceptable excuse to miss practices, events or games.
Are there any height and weight requirements?
We do not have a minimum or maximum height or weight requirement.  However you should look well proportioned and physically fit.  The uniform consists of a cropped top and short skirt or shorts.  Your midriff will be visible.
Should I be concerned about my appearance as a member of the S.A. Roses?

Absolutely!  Your image is a big part of professional cheerleading and a polished, professional look is generally requested by sponsors and all of the associated teams with which we contract.  We will help you achieve the required "look".  Visible tattoos and body & tongue piercing jewelry are not allowed.  We require all San Antonio Roses to cover all visible tattoos and remove all body & tongue piercing jewelry while in uniform, at practice, or while representing the San Antonio Roses or any associated squad.

You are expected to keep your "look" for the entire season.

When are practices / events / games held?
Practices are held one or twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Events and games are usually held on the weekends but can vary.
What are my expenses for being a member of the S.A. Roses?
Basic uniform pieces and poms are provided for the season. You will need to purchase your own boots, gold boycut brief, hose, earrings and required undergarments. We will give you the correct style and will in some cases offer discounts directly from the manufacture.

You will also be required to maintain your appearance for the entire season. This includes your hair style/color, nails, make-up and weight.

You will also be responsible for travel expenses to and from practices, games and some events. We have a squad van which will be used to travel to some events but it only seats 7 to 8 individuals including the driver.
Do I get paid as a member of the San Antonio Roses?
The San Antonio Roses appear and perform at many community and charity events throughout San Antonio.  Many will be voluntary.  However, there will be opportunities for paid promotions.  Do not consider this pay your primary source of income.  As a San Antonio Roses member, you will receive many benefits including:

The professional football organizations which we work with may choose to compensate their squad members.
Can my family and friends attend practice, events, or watch the auditions?
All practices and auditions are closed to the public.

Some of our events are private and are closed to the general public. For those events that are opened to the public your family and friends may attend but they are responsible for any entrance fees (if applicable). You should avoid having family and friends around you during events.
